 WILL LEWIS - PHOTOGRAPHY TUTOR

It all started when I was 10. I went on a school trip on the Thames with my class to see the Cutty Sark. I shot 12 photos on my very basic box camera

and took the results to school. I hoped my teacher would like one or two of them but to my surprise and delight she liked them all and put them on display. I was hooked!

After a year or so traveling around Europe I followed my heart and studied photography for three years in Birmingham.

I'd always been interested in archaeology and I soon worked my way into archaeology photography. I was site photographer on excavations around the country and abroad before landing up in south Wales working for a large archaeology unit. The photographic demands were hugely varied: on-site work, studio, close-ups, aerial, publicity, postcards, site reports, books etc.

I then spent many years in the Scottish Islands following my passion for wildlife and landscape photography. My special interests are birds, whales, sharks, otters and seascapes.

I developed tracking skills particularly in relation to otters and if this is of interest to you I can show you what to look out for as there are otters in this area. There may even be a chance to photograph otters in a rehabilitation centre nearby.

I now specialise in photographing listed buildings prior to redevelopment - anything from a 17th century barn in rural Herefordshire to the Royal Mint factory and
offices in Birmingham. In all cases the buildings have to be recorded, inside and out, to an exacting standard for archival purposes. I use a perspective control or shift lens and if you are interested in architectural photography I can show you the techniques involved.

I've been lucky enough to visit the Galapagos Islands, the Seychelles, Komodo Island, Java, Zanzibar, the Amazon jungle, Bali, Namibia, India and other places so remote you've probably never heard of them!

My work has been published in The Guardian, The Daily Mail, many other newspapers and magazines (including two front covers) and in numerous books.

Finally it wouldn't be fair to just mention the good bits. I wouldn't be much help if you were interested in glamour, advertising or formal wedding photography and I'm not a Photoshop (post camera editing/manipulation) expert.

All the photographs on this site were taken on a digital camera and have had the bare minimum of post camera editing.
